Sgt. Helen Sunday was shot dead by unknown gunmen
The notorious gunmen who brutally shot dead Sgt. Helen Sunday, the orderly of Enugu State deputy governor, Mrs Cecelia Ezeilo have been caught. The police have apprehended gunmen who killed an orderly attached to Enugu State deputy governor, Mrs Cecelia Ezeilo, Punch reports.
The orderly, Sgt. Helen Sunday, was killed in the Trans Ekulu area of Enugu on Tuesday night. Revealing more details, the spokesman, Enugu State Police Command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday night, said two suspects, identified as Emmanuel Onyeabor and Kanu Oti, have been arrested for the crime.
Onyeabor and Oti were arrested after gun battles with police operatives at their hideouts in the Lomalinda and Amorji-Nike areas, respectively, according to Amaraizu.
Amaraizu said the suspects sustained serious injuries in the shootouts that preceded their arrest by the police. However, other members of the killer gang evaded arrest, and are now being hunted by the police.
Some of the fleeing hoodlums sustained gunshot wounds in the encounter with the police, Amaraizu added. He urged members of the public to report anybody seen with bullet wounds.
“Emmanuel Onyeabor and Kanu Oti were picked up at their various hideouts in Lomalinda, Independence Layout axis, and Amorji-Nike axis of Abakpa, after a serious gun duel.
“Some of the gang members escaped with wounds – the command is requesting information from members of the public and hospital operators concerning anyone with injuries suspected to be bullet wounds,” Amaraizu explained.
He further revealed that a phone, said to belong to the deputy governor’s orderly, was recovered from the suspects.
Amaraizu added that the suspects confessed that they only meant to rob the policewoman, but ended up killing her when she resisted their attempts to dispossess her of her valuables.
Explaining further, he said, “The suspects are regretting their action, having revealed that their motive was to rob the victim.
“On that fateful day, the suspects, who were operating in a Mercedes Benz car, ran into the deceased as she was returning from work on a street off Nike Lake Road, in the Trans Ekulu axis of Enugu, and robbed her of her bag containing her phone and some amount of money, and when she resisted, they shot her at the head from close range.
“She was later rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead.”
Amaraizu, who said the arrest of the suspects was aided by ‘intelligence information’, urged members of the public to always make useful information available to the police.
