Man stabs his 18-year-old lover to death in Bayelsa

An 18-year-old woman has died from wounds sustained when she was stabbed by a 26-year-old man in a hotel room in Yenegoa. The victim, Faith Pius, was rushed to a hospital but died from complications two days later. The attack on Faith had occurred on Friday night.

She had been in a guest house located at Biogbolo area in Yenegoa, Bayelsa, when she got stabbed by the culprit. She screamed in pain and that attracted the attention of other guests in the guest house but by the time they came to her rescue, her attacker had fled the scene. Faith was rushed to a hospital where she received treatment and her wounds were stitched. However, a day later, she developed complications then died on Sunday, two days after she was attacked.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, narrated what transpired to NAN. The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Amba Asuquo,  confirmed the incident.

"Initially, it was treated purely as a case of assault occasioned by harm but now that the girl has died, we are now treating a case of murder against one suspect," he said.
He proceeded to disclose that the suspect is yet to be apprehended but efforts are being made to apprehend him.
"We are in the process of ensuring that the suspect is arrested because after committing the crime he ran away. I know some people are associating it to ritual killing but we cannot conclude," he said.
Following Faith's death, youths of Biogbolo community took to the streets to protest. They attacked shops and vandalised vehicles reportedly owned by the kinsmen of Faith's 26-year-old lover until policemen intervened and dispersed them. Stephen Pius, an elder brother of the victim, alleged that the suspect cut his younger sister twice, in her stomach and her heart region.
