Panic in Imo as Cult War Leaves 3 Dead, Others in Custody

A deadly cult war has left some people dead as many others land in police custody in an Imo State community. According to a Punch Metro report, no fewer than six persons have been arrested by the Joint Military Task Force in Assa community in the Ohaji /Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State over inter cult war which had allegedly claimed three lives.
 
A community leader revealed that the inter cult war which started on Wednesday, June 14, had claimed three lives, while about seven houses were vandalised.
 
The state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, however, said that only one person died in the clash.
 
The community source, “The clash is between Deygbam and Deywell confraternities. At about 8:30 pm on Wednesday, Joshua said to be a member of Deywell was allegedly killed. His group went on a reprisal attack. Two other persons, Okey and another person were killed with seven houses burnt”.
 
According to the source, one of the victims who was abducted into the forest was killed and his family had yet to see his corpse as of the time of filing this report.
 
The source said that some villagers had fled their homes, while others are living in apprehension.
 
Reacting to the development, the CP said “Only one person died in the clash. The Joint Military Task Force has arrested six persons in connection with the clash. They had been debriefed. The suspects would be transferred to the police headquarters in Owerri for investigations”.
 
Ezike said that the security Agencies had taken positive measures in arresting the situation, adding that the heavy presence of security personnel in the community was one of the measures to restore normalcy in the volatile community.
 
According to the police boss, the incident was a “recalling decimal” in the community, adding that measures to bring lasting peace in the area were underwear.
