Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo was kidnapped and killed by robbers

Details of how a gentle Catholic Priest was kidnapped and murdered by armed robbers led by a police officer has been revealed. One of the alleged killers of Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo, Izuchukwu Okafor, has revealed how a police officer led Corporal Jude Madu led armed robbers to kidnap and murder the priest in Imo state.

According to Vanguard, the suspect by name Okafor, popularly known as ‘Small’, made his comments when he and his gang members were paraded at the Imo state police headquarters on Thursday September 7, after being apprehended by police.

The 28-year-old stated that the operation was organized by one ex-Corporal Jude Madu and also disclosed that he did not know the priest would die. He stated: “I don’t know he will die. We covered the nose of the catholic priest, that was why he died.

“We saw him on the road and we did not know he was a Reverend Father and we kidnapped him. I was not the owner of the vehicle used in kidnapping the Catholic priest.

“I was not the person who led the gang, it was a policeman. When we got to the junction, he asked us to stop in the front of the Catholic priest’s Toyota Corolla, and he asked the priest to come down and that he was under arrest.

“I want to tell you that it was Jude Madu that requested that I should get a car and that we were going to somewhere. He did not tell me where we were going"
