Kerry Washington wishes Actress Uzo Aduba ‘happy birthday’ in Igbo

Kerry Washington sent down her birthday wish to the ‘Orange is the new black’ star, through her Twitter handle

American Actress, Kerry Washington, who is married to Nnamdi Asomugha ; an American actor, producer and former American football cornerback who played college football for the University of California, Berkeley, before getting drafted drafted in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, wished ‘Orange is the new black’ star actress, Uzo Aduba, a happy birthday in Igbo.

Kerry Washington who sent down the birthday wish through her Twitter handle, tweeted;

@UzoAduba Ncheta ubochi omumu gi. Ekele diri Chineke.

Replying her, excited Uzo Aduba tweeted;

Heh! Nwannem nwanyi, i na asu Igbo??!? Maka o di mma! Nwanne, daalu maka ubochi omumu m.

Uzo Aduba who has been known to be an ambassador of the Nigerian culture andIgbo culture especially, in an interview with Uptown, Aduba explained the meaning of her name to international fans.

“Uzoamaka means ‘The road is good’,” she said. “Quick lesson: My tribe is Igbo, and you name your kid something that tells your history and hopefully predicts your future.” And then she explained that her motivations are her Nigerian parents who encouraged her to put in the best in what she does.

“My parents were less interested in what the pursuit was, so long as you pursued it with excellence. That is really the Nigerian mentality: putting your best self into it. It’s not about being number one, but no Nigerian parent will ever complain about that! My mom always said ‘I have never heard of nothing coming from hard work. I don’t know when it will come, but it will come,” she said.

Uzo Aduba, who spoke at Glamour x The Girl Project rally for girls, also brought down the house with her story of how she came to own up to her name ‘Uzoamaka’. According to her, she once told her mother to stop calling her “Uzoamaka’, but call her ‘Zoe’ instead because no one could pronounce her Nigerian name.Her mother who was startled by this plea, told her that if people could pronounce Michelangelo, Tchaikovsky and Dostoevsky, they should also learn to pronounce her name.
