#BayelsaDecides: GEJ Reacts To Card Reader Malfunction

Former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, has implored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to find a lasting solution to the many complaints of card readers.

Jonathan adresses newsmen after being accredited for the Bayelsa gubernatorial election 2015
Addressing journalists in Otueke after his accreditation, Jonathan said the INEC  need to review complaints regarding the use of permanent voter’s card and card readers for elections ahead of the 2019 general elections. He said that the high rate at which electorates complain about card readers is not encouraging. He also noted that he expected the commission to have found a solution to this and also provided enough incident forms to enable more registered voters to vote considering the fact that it is an isolated state election.“About five people who came with me including my mother, my elder sister and a former commissioner in Bayelsa State were rejected. These are known people, they cannot go and carry a fake or cloned card, yet the card reader rejected them for accreditation,” he said.
Appealing to the people of Bayelsa to stay calm, former president Jonathan explained that when elections are not peaceful, credible and transparent,“we then elect leaders who cannot account for their stewardship”.
