A dubious accountant in the Ondo State Specialists Hospital has been caught by the police after he ran away with salaries of workers. Detectives from the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested Aminu Kamilu, the Account Manager of the State Specialists Hospital in Ikare Akoko, for purposely absconding with the salaries and bonus allowances of nurses and health workers in the facility, reports SaharaReporters.
The report further states that protesting nurses and other health workers in the hospital became apprehensive after waiting for several weeks without receiving salary payment alerts from their banks and complained to the hospital management.
One protesting nurse said: “The period of payment elapsed without salary alerts, so the workers in the hospital became suspicious and immediately lodged a complaint to the hospital management. People were then sent down to the Ikare Akoko branch office of Heritage Bank, where it was confirmed through financial statements that November 2015 salaries had been credited," the nurse disclosed.
“However, the bank told those who were sent that the sum of N7m was withdrawn by Aminu Kamilu at the Akure Branch of the Heritage Bank, leaving insufficient funds to pay the workers their salaries."
The source said the action of the Account Manager led to the protests organized by the nurses and health workers at the hospital.
The police confirmed the man's arrest and also revealed that some staff workers from Heritage Bank have been arrested and are helping the security agency in their investigation.
