Senator Ben Bruce Defines 'Solution' to the Problems of Youth Unemployment in Nigeria

Ben Murray Bruce

The tweeting Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce who is also a common sense advocate has suggest strong measures to President Muhammadu Buhari on how to tackle the strongholds of youth unemployment in Nigeria. He has shared the messages below on his social media pages using the hashtag #‎HowToSolveYouthUnemployment# and its hoped that the Federal Government should draw clues from it:

According to the Bayelsa Senator, Nigeria complains of high unemployment yet we spend between $6 and $8 billion annually importing food. He later continued to buttress his point:

"This is a no brainer! We have unemployed youth, we have fertile land and we have a hungry populace. Instead of importing food, let us use our demand for food to solve our unemployment challenges"
he said.

The following measures were suggested by him to help ameliorate the problem of youth unemployment through agricultural means:

(1) FG & State govts should give youths free land on the condition they must use it exclusively for agriculture.

(2) FG & State Agric ministry should run free courses in 36 states & 774 LGAs to teach willing youths how to farm.

(3) The Federal ministry of Agric should open an electronic register of youths who participate in the program.

(4) Federal Min of Agric should use the electronic register to give free seeds & fertilizer to these new fathers.
This policy, when adhered to, will stop our dependence on imported food and also solve youth unemployment, he said.

In his conlusion, he stated that the naira will appreciate if we (Nigeria) no longer spend $6-$8 billion umpiring food annually when this program succeeds.

"Enough is enough of sending our hard earned money overseas to service jobs there while youths are unemployed," he added.
