Multi-million naira houses belonging to a prominent senator and a house of representative members have been set ablaze by rampaging youths who accuse the lawmakers of betraying their trust. According a report on Premium Times, thousands of angry youths in Kano who are accusing some lawmakers representing them in Abuja of failing to fulfill their electoral promises, on Wednesday, stormed houses belonging to their senator and a member of the House of Representatives, and set the properties ablaze.
It was gathered that the youths staged a violent protest early on Wednesday in Gaya Local Government area of Kano State, before seizing the properties belonging to Senator Kabiru Gaya, and another owned by Hon. Abdulahi Gaya, the member representing Gaya federal constituency.
It was reported that the youths who initially appeared to have dispersed, later regrouped and became more violent, also set fire on the campaign office of Hon. Gaya, the House member as the properties were badly burnt and destroyed
A correspondent reported that the youth said they were angry because the lawmakers failed to provide water, electricity, jobs and roads, as they promised before their elections in 2015.
Tanimu Sani Gaya, one leader of the rampaging youth, said before the elections, politicians from the area agreed that they would solve the problems of water, electricity and unemployment bedeviling the district, adding that one year after the polls, residents of the area still trek kilometers to get water while hundreds of youths still roam about without jobs.
The spokesperson for the police, Magaji Majiya, confirmed the attacks, adding that officers were still battling to push back the youths.
