A seven-day-old child and his seven-year-old sibling have died following the collapse of a wall in one of the rooms in their apartment. There was a reported tragedy and anguish as residents of Suleja local government area of Niger state cried out following the collapse of a wall in one of the rooms of Kwamba apartment which reportedly killed a seven-day-old child and his seven-year-old sibling on Wednesday.

The director-general of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Ahmed Inga, confirmed this in a statement, saying the mother of the minors also sustained injuries in the incident, adding that she was recovering, and that the government would take full responsibility of her upkeep.

"The owner of the collapsed wall was given a warning by the neighbours over the poor structure of the wall, but he refused to yield to the advice. It was not windstorm that led to the collapse of the wall, but the poor way in which it was built," he said.

Inga appealed to residents to respect government laws, saying appropriate punishment awaited any act of negligence displayed by owners of buildings or contractors.
