Eimear Ni Ghiallgairrh
A woman who desperately needed to catch her flight but had to go through the tiring airport security routine became agitated and undressed to show her anger. Eimear Ni Ghiallgairrh, a plane passenger was so frustrated with delays at airport security that she began to take off her clothes.
Ghiallgairrh, 29, suffered a broken bone when two officers arrested her. By this time she had already taken off her skirt and had been standing in customs at Stansted Airport, wearing only black tights.
The architect spent 12 hours in a cell and was fined £150 after admitting two offences.
Fracture: She was still in plaster when she went to court
Karen Phillips, prosecuting, told magistrates Ghiallgairrh was "frustrated" because she was running late for a flight to Barcelona.
She added: "She refused to be searched, became heated, got agitated and removed her skirt, standing in her tights.
"Members of the public around were distressed as she was undressing. She also banged on the desk angrily."
Ghiallgairrh's own lawyer, Sarah Steggles, told the court: "She found the whole experience quite distressing after she was late for her flight.
"Her behaviour was exuberant, calling attention to herself in a security search. Two officers were deployed and she found herself in custody for 12 hours where there were no windows and no air.
"She's articulate, intelligent, and petite and two large officers arrested her. She suffered a fracture of the bone while arrested."
Ghiallgairrh's arm was still in plaster when she appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates Court yesterday.
More to come...
