Booty Booty Everywhere: Hundreds Stripped Off in the North Sea to Raise Money for Charity (Photos)

Skinny dippers raised nearly £5,000 for mental health charity MIND after taking the freezing plunge into the North Sea at 5.30am on Sunday morning

Hundreds of people stripped off, bared it all and plunged into the chilly North Sea to raise money for the mental health charity and to celebrate the autumn equinox. Almost 500 people stripped down to their birthday suits and plunged into the chilly waters of the North Sea for the North East Skinny Dip, off the coast of Druridge Bay, in Northumberland, to raise money for mental health charity MIND.

According to Dailymail, the annual event, which is now in it's 5th year, took place at sunrise on the Sunday after the autumn equinox which occurred last Thursday.

38-year-old event's organiser Jax Higginson, who is a paramedic from Sunderland, said that this year's turnout was the best she had ever seen.

'It has done really well and been really big this year. That means that we have raised a lot of money.

'I took part in a similar even for charity in Wales in 2011 and I really wanted to recreate the same kind of thing here. The atmosphere was just really beautiful and there was a magical energy.

'Since the dip has been going on for five years now we even have regulars that come back every year - it really is like a skinny-dipping community,' she said.
