A woman has made a rather shocking claim about her experience in a hospital after she had had her baby delivered. A woman identified as one Magauta Mofokeng, has made a shocking claim.

According to Daily Sun SA, the 26-year-old South African woman claimed she had been expecting twins and when the big day arrived she went to Kopanong Hospital in Vereeniging to deliver them.

However, after giving birth, she says nurses told her she had delivered just one baby. They said what had appeared to be another one was just “body fat”, which a nurse whisked away wrapped in a towel.

Daily Sun SA reports that despite the fact that the health department denies it, Magauta still suspects that the nurses lied and that her other baby was stolen.

The new mum’s suspicions rose when she ran into one of the nurses earlier this year and saw that she had a baby that looked just like her own baby girl, Bonolo.

The family, from Sebokeng in the Vaal, celebrated Bonolo’s second birthday last week.

Magauta’s boyfriend, Molahlehi Tsotetsi, 30,claimed that sonar scans six months into Magauta’s pregnancy showed she was carrying twins.

Magauta says that nurses at Kopanong Hospital performed their own scan when she was admitted, and that one also showed she was pregnant with twins.

“My labour was taking too long and the attending nurse induced me. I remember seeing her leave the maternity room with what appeared to be a baby wrapped in a towel, but she never came back.

“Another nurse then gave me Bonolo,” she claimed.

“I asked the nurses about my other baby and they told me that what had looked like another baby was in fact just body fat.”

Molahlehi claimed when he and Magauta consulted a traditional healer in the area they were asked where the other baby was.

“I was shocked by his question. That is when I started to suspect that our baby had been stolen,” Molahlehi claimed.

Gauteng Department of Health spokesman Steve Mabona said hospital records showed that Magauta had given birth to only one child.

“According to our information, at no point in time was there ever mention of twins as Magauta did not carry twins. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl on 11 September 2014,” he said.

“The hospital will invite the patient back for further discussions,” he added.
