Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries at the event
The rift between the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Oyegun and former governor of Lagos state, Bola Tinubu is obviously far from over.An event which was held at the International Conference Center (ICC) in Abuja this morning, clearly revealed that the rift between John Oyegun, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the party, was obviously far from over.
According to a report by TheCable News, the two leaders tactically avoided each other, rather than use the occasion of the launch of a book written in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari to settle their differences.
It was gathered that some dignitaries, including Oyegun and Tinubu, were invited to the podium for the presentation of the book. With Oyegun on the far left, at least five persons separated him from Tinubu.
John Oyegun alone at the event
At the end of the presentation, the chairman walked past Tinubu before exchanging handshakes with other guests, including former head of state, Yakubu Gowon.
Recall that the APC national chairman, John Oyegun and party leader, Bola Tinubu fell out after the governorship primary election of the APC in Ondo state.
While the appeal committee of the party ordered an annulment of the exercise on grounds of alleged irregularities, the national working committee (NWC) led by Oyegun overruled the panel.
The NWC subsequently submitted the name of Rotimi Akeredolu, who emerged in the primary, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the APC candidate for the Ondo election.
Tinubu had described Oyegun’s action as anti-democratic, calling on him to step down.
