An irate mob descended on two alleged phone thieves and burnt them alive in Mararaba area of Abuja. Two men were burnt to death in Mararaba area of Abuja for allegedly snatching someone's phones. Witnesses said one of the suspects allegedly snatched a handset from someone around Abacha Road and took to his heels.
According to Dailytrust, the angry mob chased the man after he mounted a waiting ‘Okada’ and tried to escape.
But luck ran out on him as he and the cyclist were apprehended at Sharp Corner U-turn where there was traffic hold up. The angry mob caught up with them and beaten them to stupor before burning them alive.The corpses of the two thieves were later evacuated by the police.
Some of the witnesses were not sure if the Okada rider was an accomplice.
While some said the ‘Okada’ rider was waiting for passengers when the suspect boarded his bike, others maintained that he was standing by as a member of the team to zoom away with them to safety after the operation.
A brother to the ‘Okada’ man who would not want to be named lamented that his younger brother was a victim and maintained that the boy was never involved in any criminal activity.
The police confirmed the incident and warned people to desist from taking laws into their hands.
