An 102-year-old woman was able to fulfill her life-long wish after being arrested at her retirement home by members of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. A 102-year-old Missouri woman was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car last Friday, but it wasn't for committing a crime.
The aged woman identified as Edie Simms fulfilled her wish to ride in the police vehicle, thanks to Five Star Senior Center, a multi-purpose day facility that provides services for senior citizens in south St. Louis.
A group of officers showed up at the Five Star Senior Center to fulfil her unusual request. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department wrote about the "arrest" on its official Facebook page.
"St. Louis police officers helped 102-year old Edie Simms fulfil her bucket list wish when they 'arrested' her Friday afternoon. Ms. Simms spends her free time sewing items for the Five Star Senior Center, a center near to many of our officers' hearts," the police department wrote.
Fox News reported that Simms enjoyed her ride in the back of the police cruiser. "Oh yes, handcuffs and all," she said with a laugh.
Michael Howard, the executive director of the center, told ABC News today. "She was so excited that she can ride in a police car and she said, 'Do you think you could put those handcuffs on me?'"
"A St. Louis county car pulled up next to the police and Edie holds up her hands with the handcuffs on. She's just a riot."
Edie had never set foot in a police car until that day. When asked if she enjoyed her ride, Edie told Fox affiliate KTVI in Missouri, "Oh yes, handcuffs and all."
She added: “Keep going, don’t ever stop whatever it is you’re doing and spend some time doing community service because sometimes the person you reach out and touch, is the only person that they will talk to in a day."
