Wealthy prisoner, Joshua Waiganjo
A rich man who has been convicted in prison has made a shocking revelation how he has been paying money to corrupt prison bosses. A wealthy prisoner, Joshua Waiganjo who got into trouble after impersonating an assistant commissioner for five years, on Thursday shocked a Nakuru Court after he revealed that he had been giving ‘fuel money’ to corrupt prison bosses on a regular basis.
He revealed before the Senior Resident Magistrate Joe Omido that he had been giving “a lot of money” to prison officers so they can transport him to Nyeri, Nakuru, and Kajiado where he has pending cases.
The Kenyans reports that he went to court after the demand became too much and he needed to make a case against the corrupt officials. He was allowed to make his case before the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya.
“The bosses always say that the vehicles have no fuel and if I don't provide the same, I cannot attend court,”Waiganjo told the Nakuru court.
Waiganjo who told the court that the warders are aware of the misconduct further revealed that he did not feel safe going back to the Nakuru GK prison and requested that he be remanded at Naivasha GK prison so that he can record a statement at Naivasha Police Station.
His wish was granted.
According to The Kenyans, Waiganjo hit national headlines after he was found to have impersonated an assistant commissioner of police for five years.
He is even said to have at one point inspected a guard of honour by Kenya Forestry guards during a graduation ceremony at Londiani, Kericho County.
After he was apprehended, Waiganjo was found guilty of impersonating a police officer and sentenced to five years in prison. However, there are other ongoing cases against him.
