The divorced women lay in graves to overcome marriage failure
Some Chinese female divorcees have left many people in serious shock after they were found meditating in graves. An unusual ritual has seen a number of women lying inside real graves to help them overcome the tragedy of their failed marriages. The incident which was captured on camera happened in the outskirts of Chongqing, a city in southwestern China.
The divorcees also lay in the graves to meditate.
According to Dailymail, photographs show the practice in full swing, with women seemingly sleeping in soily dug-outs lined with plastic sheeting. They appear to be lost in thought as they lay with their eyes closed and their hands in a prayer position.
However, one woman seems to be in a state of great distress during the ceremonial act and she is seen crying with her fists in the air. Hopefully some time in the makeshift tomb will help distinguish her grief.
The act of 'graveyard meditation' was launched by Liu Taijie. The 30-year-old told MailOnline that she wanted to help other women suffering from depression and divorce after battling through hardships herself.
Explaining her philosophy, she continued: ‘When a person is desperate, he or she could almost feel they’re near death. By lying in the grave, my students could try to experience death.
‘This will remind them that they have not done many things in their life and that they need to forget about the past and start a new life.’
Ms Liu went through a painful divorce in 2015. She got married when she was 19 years old and had her first child when she was 21. In 2014, she started her own business, but it failed, which had also led to her divorce.
She continued: ‘I know how a woman felt when she was feeling abandoned. I had the thought of committing suicide when I got divorced.’
It took Ms Liu one year to walk out of the shadow and now she has started a new business selling cosmetics.
Ms Liu said the ‘cemetery class’ will take place every two or three months. And it’ll be free for women who are in need.
She added: ‘Failure is not scary. I want all the divorced women to live their own lives and to achieve their own goals. Women must reply on themselves and be our own Queen.’
