Suspected ritualists on Tuesday murdered a 73-year-old pensioner in Ado Ekiti, and removed her fingers while her blood was also suspected to have been drained and taken away.
A 73-year-old pensioner identified as Mrs. Adetutu Ajayi, was on Tuesday, killed by unknown assailants suspected to be ritualists who reportedly made away with her fingers, while her blood was also suspected to have been drained and taken away in a bucket she owned in Ado Ekiti.

According to a report by Punch newspaper, Mrs. Ajayi, who is a daughter of the former Accountant General of the Old Western Region, Samuel Sotoowa, was murdered in her residence at Number 10, Moferere, Ajilosun area of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

It was gathered that Church members found the deceased in a pool of blood in her 3-bedroom bungalow at about 11a.m., with missing fingers, while her entire body was inflicted with machete cuts.

The mother of five, who lived alone in the flat with a tenant occupying the ‘boys quarters,’ was a retiree of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, where she reportedly worked for 35 years before retirement.

While speaking about the gruesome murder, the deceased's daughter, Titilayo, said she was called from Akure, Ondo State, by church members who informed her that her mother had sustained some injury.

“When I got here, I saw my mother in the pool of blood. Her blood seemed to have been drained and taken away because a bucket Mama kept in the store was missing. Her fingers were also severed and missing from the attack scene, which made us to suspect that it was done by ritualists.

“She ought to attend the crossover vigil at CAC, Voice of God parish within this street; but when the pastor did not see her, she was worried. The pastor sent a delegation to check on her but when they got here, they saw her lifeless body and they immediately raised the alarm.

“We saw the record Mama left on calendar because anytime she woke up around 5am, she would take her bath and mark the calendar and we saw the calendar marked on that day, which suggested that she was killed after 5am.”

The 82-year old husband of the deceased, Clement Ajayi, who lived at Irun Ekiti, described the incident as “sad, pathetic and surprising;” saying it confirmed that the lives of Nigerians are not safe.

“I could not imagine myself seeing my wife being massacred like that, over what? In fact, her head, eyes, hands, laps and neck were butchered. You could hardly identify her. It was a gruesome murder and justice must be done in this matter,” he said.
