The family tearfully receives the money
The family of a LASTMA officer who got murdered while he was on duty, has been compensated with some money. A Punch Metro report has shown that the family of late Adeyemo Rotimi Oke, a traffic officer with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority traffic officer, who was killed by a policeman, while on duty, has received the ten million Naira compensation, promised by the Lagos State Government.
In a statement signed by LASTMA’s Head, Public Affairs, Mamud Hassan, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Taiwo Salam, presented the cheque on Friday to the family of the deceased at their Ipaja residence.
Adeyemo Rotimi Oke, was murdered by a policeman, Olukunle Olonade on December 2018 at Iyana Ipaja while he was controlling traffic.
While presenting the cheque, Salam paid tribute to the late Adeyemo, He described him as a dedicated, loyal and committed traffic officer and employee of the state government that would not be forgotten for a very long time.
Salam said Adeyemo’s death on duty showed his commitment to restoring law and order to Lagos roads and in the process, paid the supreme price.
While praying for the repose of his soul, the Permanent Secretary enjoined his family to put his children’s education and future on the front burner, when making decisions.
In his comments, the General Manager of the agency, Mr. Olawale Musa described Adeyemo as a hero and someone who lost his life in the service of God and humanity.
Musa said the agency in appreciation of his contribution to reducing lawlessness, chaos and impunity on Lagos roads has instituted a merit award to reward hard-working staff.
“The award tagged Bakare -Adeyemo Merit Award was instituted two weeks ago to keep his memory alive and that of Late Siraj Bakare who was killed in similar circumstances green in the hearts of colleagues.”
He assured that these gallant officers have not died in vain as their good work will continue to be valued by the agency forever.
The head of the family thanked the state government and Governor Akinwumi Ambode for living up to his word and that the family will not forget his swift response and compensation in their time of needs and that the money will be invested to the benefit and future of his family.
It would be recalled that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had promised the sum of ten million Naira to the family of the deceased after he was killed.
